Cheque handover to Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital

September 15, 2015 | By Lashara van Heerden

On behalf of the Quercus Foundation, Diego Biasi was honoured to present Louise Driver, CEO of The Children’s Hospital Trust and Professor Andrew Argent, Medical Director of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with the first instalment cheque of R10Million.

This investment will go towards upgrades to PICU, which will nearly double its capacity and alleviate pressure. These funds will help to provide world class health care for a quarter of a million patients a year.

The PICU deals with complex issues including cardiac (250-300 cases per year) neonatal surgery (on children weighing only 700grams), neurosurgery, trauma and burns (50-60 per annum), tracheostomies, respiratory and neurological conditions.

Sincere thanks to all our donors for making this possible!

Biasi went on to talk to E News Channel Africa in Cape Town about the importance of giving back. We are currently working to raise R37 Million by 2017 to improve healthcare for children in South Africa.
